The Hawaii Sleep & Wellness Foundation (HSWF) will be [is] an association of health care providers and persons who understand that sleep disorders effect a large segment of our population. They agree that recognition and appropriate care will have a positive effect on health care, improve the quality of the patient's lives and
promote improved public health and safety.
Our goal is to increase awareness and improve treatment of sleep disorders by increased access to education of health care providers, the general population, public safety regulators, and insurance providers by advancing the integration of sleep disorder management into the core of general patient care.
We believe through providing education , participation in public safety considerations affected by sleep disorders and providing sleep medicine expertise in discussions of sleep requiremnets for workers and children we can make a difference.
We also want to lend our support to patient advocacy groups and their efforts to best cope with the chronic sleep problems.
Finally, we want to advocate the involvement of our multi-ethnic community in research of health trends, medical devices and medications for sleep disorders.
We believe these goals are important since many people are affected by sleep disorders, so few of them are actually aware, and comprehensive programs of treatment are very limited.
